Description: Join Raj, Dwayne, Rerun, Dee, Mama, and Shirley for a trip back into the time of rainbow suspenders and bell bottoms. Widely regarded as one of the most beloved sitcoms of the 70s, What’s Happening!! has been entertaining audiences of all ages for nearly fifty years. While the ratings for the show during its original run were modest, it found greater success in syndication. This success led to a revival in the late 80s with What’s Happening Now!! which featured most of the original cast returning to reprise their roles. Most of the plots involve Roger, Rerun and Dwayne getting into trouble and trying to find ways to get rich quick. In addition, they need to avoid Rodger’s wry and irksome little sister Dee, who is always looking to rat on them and extort money for her silence. It is usually up to Roger's mother to save the day in the end. The show boasted an incredible ensemble cast, including Ernest Thomas as Rodger “Raj” Thomas, Haywood Nelson as Dwayne Nelson, Fred Berry as Freddy “Rerun” Stubbs, Danielle Spencer as Dee, the amazing Mabel King as Rodger and Dee’s mother Mabel, and the incomparable Shirley Hemphill as Shirley Wilson. The show was created by Eric Monte. Monte was also the creative mind behind the classic sitcoms The Jeffersons and Good Times. What’s Happening was loosely based on Monte’s screenplay for the motion picture Cooley High. The shows iconic theme song was composed by Henry Mancini.
